Twelve Monkeys (1995)

In the futuristic setting of 2035, James Cole, a convict, hesitantly offers to journey back in time to unravel the mystery behind a catastrophic virus that devastated humanity and compelled the remaining few to seek refuge underground. Due to a mishap, Cole is transported to the year 1990 instead of his intended destination in 1996, leading to his apprehension and confinement in a psychiatric facility. It is within this institution that he encounters Dr. Kathryn Railly, a psychiatrist, and the offspring of a renowned virus specialist, who could potentially possess crucial information about the enigmatic Army of the 12 Monkeys - believed to be the architects of the fatal outbreak.
