Jean de Florette (1986)

In a quaint countryside town in France, an elderly gentleman and his sole living kin set their sights on a neighboring empty piece of land. Their interest lies in the natural spring water it holds, vital for nurturing their beloved flowers. Their plans take a turn when they discover that the new owner, who has inherited the property, intends to settle in. Determined to claim the water source for themselves, they take drastic action by obstructing the spring's flow. As their neighbor struggles to sustain his crops using distant wells during the scorching summer, the duo remains unfazed by the toll it takes on his well-being and his family's happiness. Their fixation on securing the water resource blinds them to the suffering unfolding next door.
