In an overlooked corner of Southern Ohio, where the decline of American industry and opportunities looms large, a determined young woman seizes a chance for a better life by gaining admission to college. Teaming up with her elder brother, Ruth Avery embarks on a perilous journey as part of a risky scrap metal team to fund her education.
