After immigrating to the United States from the Netherlands post-World War II, Harry deLeyer formed a remarkable bond with a neglected Amish plow horse he rescued from a slaughter truck destined for the glue factory. Harry purchased the horse for a mere eighty dollars and bestowed upon him the name Snowman. In a span of under two years, Harry and Snowman triumphed in securing the prestigious triple crown of show jumping, triumphing over the elite equestrians of the nation as they gained worldwide recognition. The serendipitous encounter at a horse auction in Pennsylvania not only saved both Harry and Snowman but also forged a lifelong companionship between them. Now at the age of eighty-six, Harry narrates their enchanting rags-to-riches tale firsthand, all while he persists in training for today's competitive show jumping arena.
